De spiraalgroeven zorgen er niet alleen voor dat de luizen verwijderd worden, maar ook dat de neten worden gedood. Daarnaast worden ook de achtergebleven schillen weggenomen. U kunt hiervoor het beste een oude tandenborstel of nagelborstel gebruiken; hiermee krijgt u de luizen en neten goed van de kam verwijderd. De kleine borsteltjes die gebruikt worden voor het schoonmaken van scheerapparaten zijn hiervoor ook geschikt. Daarnaast kan de kam ook gewoon met water schoongespoeld worden.
